Custom Solution: Upper Stage Rocket Section Platform Aerospace Application
Following assembly, an IUS (Inertial Upper Stage) rocket section, weighing 35,000 pounds, is transported to an anechoic chamber for testing. Movement into the chamber is done by using a "Piggy Back" Air Bearing Platform System. This two level system uses the lower (base) platform for movement to the chamber. Then, using the upper platform, the IUS is transferred on to the 11" elevated surface inside the chamber.
The quick attachment feature of Airfloat's Air Motor Drive Tractor allows use of the drive for moving both lower and upper platforms. This system allows for the quick and flexible movement of the platform into position, thus eliminating the inefficiencies and the potential damage to the equipment that could occur with the use of overhead cranes.
Custom Solution: Mining Truck Transporter
APPLICATION:
A producer of mining equipment needed a safe and effective solution to their difficult task of moving a mining truck frame within the assembly process. The previous procedure proved too time consuming and dangerous for the operators.
SOLUTION:
Airfloat designed a set of two, four air bearing equipped transporters that used an air motor powered drive (NSD-7). The platform’s dimensions are 98 inches long by 67 inches wide by 6-1/4 inches high from the base, which was required to support existing assembly stands. The unit is controlled by a hand held pendant with variable speed control, ranging from 0-10 miles per hour. Additionally, the differential in speed of the platforms’ are controlled separately, allowing for steering capabilities.
